![]() ![]() It's fun, but doesn't make for the best adventure game. Playing the leader of a motorcycle gang who's verb list includes *kick* doesn't seem right. Adventure games are traditionally about soaking in atmosphere and solving problems with cleverness and wit. A lot of the ideas feel like they were pitched in a meeting without an understanding of what's fun to do in video game versus what sounds fun to do in a video game. The other puzzles don't fare that much better, with the motorcycle fighting minigame headlining the clunky design parade. It's an alright puzzle made bad by needless obfuscation. The remastered highlight function doesn't even highlight it. But the issue is it's not clear that the bottom of the door can be interacted with in that way. It's a fun idea on paper, to subvert the player's expectations. The actual solution is to place a lock at the bottom of the closed door, which causes the chain to become rigid, and can then be climbed over the wall, getting the player into the junkyard. The immediate thought many players will have is 'I need to hold this door open somehow'. You can pull the chain to lift the door, but it has to be held, and falls if you walk away to try to enter the junkyard. One puzzle involves two elements, a garage door style entrance to a junkyard and a chain that pulls the door up. This game suffers from a lack of play testing, or maybe just underdeveloped design sensibilities. The music has been completely redone, and sounds superior to the old MIDI stuff. ![]() The VO was already great with the insane cast, and it's fantastic they were able to find the original files. Sound is a definite improvement across the board. But it's a remaster, so I guess they have to make it all *modern* and whatnot. Honestly I think the game shouldn't have been expanded to 16:9, lots of the framing only really works in 4:3. The lighting and tone changes a little too drastically for some scenes. But unlike the other remasters Double Fine has done, this one feels a bit off. I never played the original, and I really like the ability to jump between the two version on a whim.
